The starfish
That lay inert before
Harries its prey across the ocean floor;
Fissures
Papered in the bedroom wall
Arise from continents that fall;
And fossils
That the scholars failed to place
Emerge as remnants of an alien race.
On high dunes
The shifting surfaces draw
Allusions to an underlying law;
Principles of vast pursuits
Glitter in alluvia and eroded buttes.
Ghostly hierarchies elude
The seeker of order,
Their winged corpses curled;
Our bearings are too crude
To extricate the misconstrued,
Or reach in explorations the implicit world.
