Home Nijinsky's Horse Littoral

Littoral

Seek in mechanical stress and strain
Repose and refuge from emotion;
Clean equations’ loss and gain
Are shores by literature’s ocean.

Let me rest on those shoals awhile;
I’ve crossed the waves of poetry and fiction;
Let conflict be a point of friction —
A coefficient, not a style —
And I, half-drowned in literate depths before,
Will catch my breath upon a literal shore.
